Starting in late April and early May, Miss Westfall will visit with 4th grade classes about being and band and then having students try-out mouthpieces for instruments to see what fits them best!
What Is 5th Grade Band?
5th Grade band is the first opportunity for many of our students to begin learning a musical instrument that they can play in a large group setting.
Beginning band lessons for 5th grade students usually start during the summer going into their 5th grade year. Each student has a weekly 15 minute small group or individual lesson once school starts. Group band which includes band students from each elementary begins in the fall after Labor Day and meets every Tuesday after school at the Middle School from 3:30-4:20. Learning how to play their instrument within a large ensemble is the primary goal of the group band. The 5th graders perform at five concerts over the course of their first year. Any 5th grade student who has a band instrument is welcome to join band!
