Mt. Pleasant 5th Grade Band Sign-Up
Welcome 4th grade families!
May is an exciting month as we wrap up our school year. This is especially so for 4th grade since we have the opportunity to learn to play band instruments going into 5th grade. During the next few weeks, I will visit all the 4th grade classes in the district to demonstrate instruments and meet with your child to determine what instrument they would like to play. Please take the time to discuss with your student the prospect of being in band next year and what instruments they might enjoy playing! When I meet with your student, they will have the opportunity to try up to three of the instrument mouthpieces and we will discuss which instrument fits them best. We will then select an instrument they would like to play. If your child is interested in percussion(drums), they will audition for a percussion spot since I can only take 6-8 for the entire school district.
The next step is to attend our sign-up night. Band Sign-up Night will be Thursday, May 23rd, at the Middle School music room from 4:00pm to 6:00pm. (The music room is on the north side of the building that faces the railroad tracks-we’ll have signs up!) We will have an online form to fill out with contact information and preferred times for summer lessons so bring your summer calendar! Also, that evening several representatives from a local music company, West Music, will be available if you need an instrument or have an instrument that needs repaired. This would be an excellent opportunity to purchase, rent, or learn about what makes a good quality instrument. West Music has new instruments for purchase and has a rent-to-own program. Click for More Info on West Music. Computers will be available to complete an online rental/purchase if you chose to pay online that evening. Sign-up & talking with West Music should take no more than 20 minutes so please come anytime between 4pm and 6pm! If you already have the instrument your child has chosen to play, bring it to our Band Sign-up Night so we can check it over to make sure it is in good playing condition before summer lessons start. **If you’re looking at buying an instrument online, please speak with me so that I can help to make sure you get an instrument with both quality and value. ** If you can’t come to the Band Sign-up Night, you can fill out the sign-up form on this website any time after that evening.
Lessons for beginners start over the summer beginning on Monday, June 10th and if you rent/buy from West Music, I will have their instrument and lesson book ready for them at their first lesson. Summer lessons will be in the Middle School music room. Your child will receive a lesson schedule and all other necessary information shortly after school gets out via mail and email. If your child cannot attend summer lessons, you can still sign them up on the Band Sign-up Night. They will just begin once school starts in the fall.
Band is an exciting opportunity for all students to participate in. The merits of the Mt. Pleasant Music Department are very evident throughout the school, community, and the state. Mt Pleasant has established a proud tradition of outstanding musical ensembles, which allow for even greater intellectual growth and development of self-esteem in students. This can only be continued through the cooperation of you as a parent and the hard work (daily practice) of your child. It all starts here at the end of 4th grade!
